Bats

About Bats
The common bat found in New Jersey is a nocturnal mammal that almost exclusively feeds on insects. Bats can become a nuisance for the business or homeowner when nesting in structures. The high pitch sound they emit or scratching and crawling in attics, walls, and chimneys evidences indication of the presence of a bat.

Fecal droppings and urine stains just below a roost are also a sign of a problem. Although rare, rabies can be a very real concern and care should be taken when encountering a sick or injured bat. Bat droppings are the breeding ground for the fungal pathogen that causes human histoplasmosis.

Where We Come In
The Professionals at Terminator Termite and Pest Control can determine if your problem is an indication of a bat infestation or other animal control problem. Birds, rodents or squirrels offer similar evidence in attics, chimneys and other points of entry in building structures. Once the problem is verified, a safe, effective program of bat prevention and control will ensure elimination of infestation.

Skunks

About Skunks
If a skunk population is near to your home or property you well undoubtedly know it. Skunks emit a nauseating musk from the anal glands and have the ability to discharge several times. Although they may travel a distance of up to 4 or 5 miles in a single night, a frequent skunk odor over a period of time is an indication that a skunk lives nearby. They may burrow under pouches and enter structures, dig holes in lawns and gardens to search for insects.

Open garbage containers can also be an invitation for the skunk to forage for food. As with any animal that is overly aggressive, skunks can transmit rabies. Care should be taken when encountering a skunk. A Professional should be called when a problem exists.

Raccoons

About Raccoons
Raccoons are omnivorous, i.e. that eat both plant and animal foods. Raccoons are nocturnal and can cause damage to crops, especially sweet corn. They can damage and become a nuisance around houses and building structures. Raccoons can be found in uncapped chimneys and may tear off siding or shingles in order to enter an attic or wallspace.

Raccoons have the ability to open the lids of garbage containers in order to forage for food. Concern should be taken around raccoons. Although ‘cute’, they are wild animals and should be treated as such. Sick and injured animals should be left alone and a professional should be called immediately.
