Silverfish
About Silverfish
Silverfish are closely related to the Firebrats. They are gray or brownish wedge-shaped wingless insects that hide in cracks during daylight hours and appear at night, looking for food. Silverfish feed on starches, sugars, and proteins they gather from bookbinding’s, glazed paper and dead insects. They enjoy high humidity and relatively warm temperatures, (70-85° ). Cardboard and other paper products brought into the home often contain Silverfish.
Older books and papers or sweet and starchy material kept in warm, moist dark places are the perfect location for the insect infestation. Because silverfish are a hazard to both food supplies in the home or business and important books and papers, they can be a costly problem and should be handled by NJ exterminators immediately.
